Our Mission
SwapWebP makes image conversion instant, private and free for everyone who stumbles upon an annoying .webp
file.
The Story
In early 2024, our founder — a UI developer tired of emailing colleagues who couldn’t open WebP screenshots — built a quick in-browser converter. Friends kept asking for the link, and SwapWebP was born.
How It Works
- Runs entirely in your browser; no images are uploaded.
- Uses the HTML5 Canvas API to decode WebP and re-encode JPG/PNG/BMP.
- JSZip bundles multiple conversions into a single download.
- Service Worker cache makes the tool usable offline after first visit.
Key Features
- Convert WebP to JPG, PNG or BMP in one click.
- Interface in 11 languages — switch via globe icon.
- No file-size limits; batch-mode with ZIP export.
- Drag-and-drop, mobile-friendly, zero sign-up.
Roadmap
- Q4 2025 — AVIF output.
- Q1 2026 — Browser extension.
- Community-requested features via GitHub issues.
